Castleblayney Faughs Parents/Guardians Code

Castleblayney Faughs is committed to providing a child centred environment for all our underage players (u18) where the welfare of the children participating is held above all other objectives. Ensuring that all children are participating in a safe and fun environment will help the club meet its coaching philosophy of ‘as many as we can for as long as we can’ in terms of player retention. Parents/Guardians play a key role in helping the club achieve this aim.

As a registered member of the GAA, you have already agreed to the GAA Code of Conduct for Parents: Part 3 of Section 3 of the GAA Child Safeguarding Policy (see QR code 1 below).

The     club     are     also     committed     to     the     ‘Save     our     Smiles’     initiative     from     Ulster     GAA   link

Below is a summary of some of the key expectations for parents/guardians taken from the GAA code and the

‘Save Our Smiles’ initiative, however, parents should be familiar with the full content of both.

Parents/Guardians within the Club are asked to do the following:

  • Remember that coaches are volunteers giving up their own time
  • Only ever enter the pitch (matches or training) at the request of those in charge (this is important from a child protection perspective)
  • Leave the coaching to the coaches
  • Do not shout instructions at players
  • Let them play, let them make their own decisions (and mistakes)
  • Respect match officials, players, parents and coaches
  • Applaud good play and effort from both teams
  • Do not focus on results, focus on enjoyment and effort
  • Be positive with their child, support them, don’t criticise their performance, encourage them to bounce back from setbacks and to stay involved
  • Encourage their child to:
  • Play by the rules
  • Appreciate and respect everyone on their team and the opposition team
  • Respect and appreciate their coaches and referees
  • Read the players code of behaviour with their child (Part 1 of Section 3 of the Code)
  • Discuss any issues that they have in relation to their child’s participation or performance with the coach in a constructive and non-confrontational manner and not in the vicinity of other parents or young players
  • If these issues relate to a game, it is recommended to leave this discussion for 24hrs to allow time to reflect

All young players and their Parents should know that it is appropriate to talk to the Club Children’s Officer with any

concerns or questions and to tell somebody else if they or others have been harmed in any way.
